Job Ad & Profile Description

Position : Pharmacovigilance Officer - Gaborone

We are looking for a Pharmacovigilance Officer in Botswana
 Responsibilities:

  • Seconded to the Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BOMRA), work closely with the BOMRA and Akros to plan for upcoming technical activities. 
  • To educate healthcare professionals on concepts of pharmacovigilance and train them on reporting of ADRs/AEFIs and quality defects.
  • To receive AEFI reports assess and compile them. Present to the Manager if any immediate action is to be taken for ADRs/AEFIs received.
  • To assist in the development/review and implementation of guidelines and SOPs related to Pharmacovigilance function
  • To enhance collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders including Expanded Program on Immunisation
  • To ensure that serious AEFIs are investigated, and causality assessment conducted within turnaround times
  • To disseminate medicine safety information to all relevant stakeholders.
  • To assess periodic safety update reports on medicines/vaccines
  • To provide answers to Medicine Information queries received by Medicines Information Center BOMRA
  • To assist the department in the development and implementation of institutional development plans to achieve Maturity Level 3
  • Coordinate logistics for implementation (e.g. advance requests, venue hire, branding and marking preparations, coordinate invitations when requested) and ensure all expenditures are in line with set budgets.
  • Identify implementation issues and provide possible solutions to address them, that are timely shared with key stakeholders
  • Ensure all forms and records are documented and updated.
  • Liaise with Akros Research to ensure effective and efficient program delivery and provide inputs for monthly donor reports.
  • To undertake any other responsibilities, tasks or activities as may be assigned from time

 
 

Required profile for job ad : Pharmacovigilance Officer - Gaborone

 

  • Past exposure and experience in a reputable pharmaceutical or regulatory institution, or in pharmacovigilance field will be an added advantage;
  • At least two years of working experience in a reputable pharmaceutical establishment;
  • Previous experience in pharmacovigilance or post marketing surveillance of medicines is an advantage;
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Pharmacovigilance is desirable.
  • High level of Integrity;
  • Keen attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to productively communicate remotely;
  • Excellent analytical skills;
  • Ability to write clear and comprehensive technical reports;
  • Good knowledge of pharmaceutical regulatory issues; assessment of ADRs/AEFIs; 
  • Ability to participate in field activities; and
  • Good knowledge of ICT applications.
